Management of compressed air systems
doesn’t receive the same care and
attention as other critical
processes. Neglect of this vital
resource can’t continue.
There’s many compelling
reasons to maintain a leak rate at
5-10%, yet we still see facilities
where leaks are an acceptable cost
of production.
Why is this? Are energy costs
still too low?
Is it because leaks don’t
pose an obvious safety concern? Do
we ignore leaks because they don’t
smell bad? Because they’re
invisible? You certainly can’t hear
them over other plant noise.
And unlike oil leaks, they
don’t make a slippery mess on the
floor.
As the squeaky wheel goes, so
do compressed air leaks. Its easy to
ignore something that doesn’t scream
“fix me!”
What other incentives are
needed to address this waste?
