New Product Release
SDT announces two additions to the Ultrawave 170 product line this week in the form of software upgrades for the SDT 170S and 170M. They will be known as the 170S+ and 170M+ and are available immediately. Details are posted at www.sdtnorthamerica.com.

The SDT 170S+ is a digital version of the 170S. This feature gives us a midway point between the 170S and the 170M. Leak surveyors who want to record decibel values to correlate SCFM or leak rate can now do so without spending full price for the 170M. The 170S+ still does not permit the use of multi function sensors like temperature, RPM, and dBA, nor does it have the memory function of the 170M+

The SDT 170M+ has all the features and functions of the 170M with an added bonus to download memorized values to a basic text “.txt” file. This new versatility allows ultrasound inspectors to quickly gather data (ultrasonic, temperature, RPM, dBA), store it, and download it to PC. Sample reports are posted at www.sdtnorthamerica.com.

Training - Maximize Your Experience
10 Steps to Maximize Your Training Experience

Training is an investment of your time and money. Like any investment, you want to get the most from the experience. With that goal in mind we make several suggestions to our students at the beginning of each class.

1. Be demanding of the instructor. Each class is taught by a qualified trainer who is both class and field savvy. Do ask questions, even if you feel you should already know the answer. It is likely that everyone else in the room has the same question and is just dying for someone else to ask it. If a particular subject was not clear the first time, ask the instructor to go over it again. Use break time to further clarify.

2. Enter into discussions with enthusiasm.

3. Give freely of your own experiences. A nice aspect of open class training is that it invites professionals from different industrial backgrounds together for shared learning. Learn from one another and go home from the class enriched by everyone, not just the instructor.

4. Stay focused by confining your discussion to the problem at hand. There will be plenty of time during breaks, lunch, and after class to discuss the latest football trades.

5. Only one person should talk at a time. Avoid private conversations while someone else is speaking. Its rude, and you may miss an important point.

6. Everyone learns at a different pace. Be patient with other members of the class.

7. Be appreciative of other’s point of view, even if you don’t agree.

8. Arrive well rested and pay attention. True or False: There’s no such thing as a bad question. (False) Bad questions address points already covered, but missed because you weren’t listening the first time.

9. Participate freely during the hands on practical portion as it is here that you will pick up critical skills, tips, and techniques.

10. PLEASE TURN OFF YOUR MOBILE PHONE. If you absolutely must be available to outside calls, let the trainer know at the beginning of the class, set the ringer to vibrate only, and ask to choose a seat closest to the exit. Excuse yourself from the classroom area before answering the call. Upon your return, do not expect the instructor to recover what you missed, rather take it up during a break or after class.

Following these 10 steps will ensure you maximize your training experience and the experience of your colleagues.

Air Leak Survey Tip

Often times fixing compressed air leaks can lead to new leaks being created. Zonal pressure builds in the area where the leaks were repaired causing more strain on marginal leaks. In a matter of a few days or weeks microscopic leaks grow into large money wasters.
Therefore it is recommended to do a 2 week check up after leaks are repaired. This will achieve two goals:

1. Ensure that the tagged leaks were fixed properly
2. Ensure that new leaks from zonal pressure increases are found and tagged

So be proactive and close the loop on future leaks by encouraging a 2 week follow up after leak work orders are completed.

Digital Leak Surveyor Kit Downloads to Excel
Looking for a digital leak detection that can store and generate reports in Excel or Word? The 170M+ Leak Survey Kit is specially configured with the accessories required to do the job right, plus a simple PC interface that transfers your days work directly to MSWord or Excel.
Use the SDT Leak Survey Handbook to access valuable resources about leak detection, as well as correlate the decibel value of a leak to SCFM.
The super sensitive internal airborne sensor of the SDT170 with the precision indicator is well shielded from ambient plant noise. Plug in the Flexible Sensor to get at those hard-to-reach areas and use the Extended Distance Sensor for overhead ceiling piping. The proprietary shape of the EDS focuses ultrasonic signals making long range detection possible.
