Ultrasound Tip
When looking for leaks in compressed air piping, be sure to inspect all sides of a pipe or the leak may be missed. Airborne ultrasound is directional. Therefore it is vital to inspect all sides of a pipe or fitting. Use a flexible wand sensor for difficult access areas and to reach behind piping that is close to a wall or ceiling corner. For overhead ceiling piping use an extended distance sensor or parabolic dish with laser sighting.
Use shielding methods such as a cloth rag or a piece of foam to block out ambient competing ultrasounds

Ultrasonic Scanning at a Postal Plant
Ever wonder how literally billions of pieces of mail get processed efficiently every year? A Postal Plant is a truly amazing place where bearings whirr and paper flies past the eye at blinding speeds. Bearing failures on a Digital Bar Code Sorter (DBCS) can interupt the ever important flow of envelopes. To keep these machines humming the USPS employs state of the art ultrasonic scanning methods to quickly pick a"bad" bearing from a group of hundreds, or even thousands of "good" ones.
Rapid ultrasonic inspection techniques are available on CDROM by special request from SDT North America. To learn more about scanning techniques in a postal plant visit our website and request the CDROM

Flexible Wand Now With Replaceable Sensor
If you're like me, you hate it when tools break... more for the inconvenience of being without the tool than for any other reason. Well say good-bye to expensive repairs and costly downtime of one ultrasonic sensor, SDT's now famous, Flexible Wand.

The Flexible Wand is a great sensor for getting into tight areas where the hand won't fit, or where its not safe to put the hand. As a result of its "flexibility" (pun intentended) this sensor takes a beating. In the past, when the sensor head became damaged it could mean a costly repair, week-long downtime, and possibly the purchase of a new sensor. No more!

SDT prides itself on putting the customer's requests front and center and you made yourself loud and clear on this one. So we've re-designed the Flexible Sensor to have a removeable head. Simply screw out the damaged sensor and screw a new one in. The change-out takes all of 10 seconds.

Anheuser-Busch to Present at User Group Meeting
Implementing Ultrasound Analysis at in a World Class Brewery

Anheuser-Busch is the one of the world's largest brewers, operating 14 breweries, 12 in the United States and two overseas. In business since 1852, there is more than 150 years of brewing tradition in their keg making them a true American success story. Popularity of their product aside, Anheuser-Busch did not get to where they are today without an effective predictive maintenance and reliability strategy. It’s paramount to providing consumers with a high quality product that is well priced and profitably manufactured.

A corporate driven program to reduce compressed air, CO2 and steam waste was began 4 years ago. Heading this program is Dan Durbin, Corporate Engineer working from corporate headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri.

If you are having difficulty implementing a compressed air program at your facility then you MUST attend this presentation. Dan will tell you how to get buy-in at the corporate level and the manufacturing level. He will discuss incentive programs and an intricate work order system that makes sure leaks are found, fixed, and verified.

The United Nations of Ultrasound user group meeting is the only chance this year to hear successful implemenation stories from around the globe. DON'T MISS IT!

Ultrasound Excellence
Leak Test Underground Storage Tanks
Checking tightness using ultrasound involves collecting and amplifying the ultrasound vibrations generated by the passage of water, air or matter through a hole in the wall of the tank. This is after the tank has been set under vacuum.

The SDT ultrasonic detector picks up specially defined frequencies to detect any tightness problems in the underground tanks through two sensitive sensors; one in the liquid and the other above the level of the liquid. It converts them into audible frequencies making an unknown part of his environment perceptible to the human being.
A digital indicator displays (in dBmV) the peak value of the ultrasonic signal detected.

Watch our website for more details about this application.

Also attend the user group meeting to see a live demonstration of the technique.
