Hah! In
January I wrote about $100 oil and at the time of
this writing we're staring down the barrel of $120
just in time for summer vacation and driving. Can
$4.00/gallon gas be added to the list of life's
certainties (death, taxes, and high energy prices)?
While we continue to look for ways to keep our
factories lean and efficient I report on my recent
trip to Euro Maintenance 2008 in Brussels, Belgium
where many of the conference sessions held a strong
focus on energy and the environment. The Europeans
have always been one step ahead when it comes to
energy conservation it seems. I still remember my
first trip more than 15 years ago and even then they
were using motion sensors to control room lighting.
Maybe that's why they laugh when I complain about
$1.20/litre gas and they are already paying three
times that.
I had
the privilege to present two papers at Euro
Maintenance. The first, "Strategies for an Effective
Ultrasound Program" was an updated version on an
earlier paper. In this version I decided to place a
much stronger focus on leadership to drive your
program. I see leadership and ownership lacking in
programs that do not survive the acid test of real
life. I'll be posting these presentations here
shortly so stay tuned. |

DataManager Version
2.0 User Manual |

With the
release of DataManager 2.0 some important new features
were introduced including mass editing of routes and
point names using a one-click link to Excel. Another
exciting feature is the ability to link any file to an
ID point. Use your imagination for this one. A link
could include linking a .wav sound file to a bearing or
a digital image of a machine. One user has even linked
his vibration and alignment reports. He relies on the
SDT170MD ultrasonic detector to alarm him when his
bearings are approaching failure. When an alarm is
triggered he is only a click away from seeing what the
last vibration readings were for any point.
DataManager
2.0 will install right over previous version of
DataManager leaving your data intact. Having said that
it is always a good idea when installing or upgrading
software to exit all open applications and make a backup
of your data file.
